Located in Marquette Heights, Independence Park is made up of beautiful woodlands and meadows that are bordered by Route 29 on the West, I-474 on the North, and LaSalle Blvd. on the South. Here you’ll find over 12 miles of trails – giving you ample space and opportunity to nature watch and explore. There is also an abundance of plant life and flowers. Some of the wildlife you’ll encounter include deer, foxes, beavers, muskrats, and over 80 species of birds. Grab some water, pack a lunch, and set out for a day’s adventure.

All trails are multi-use and open to both hikers and mountain bikers. Trails are both marked and unmarked, so before you set out, make sure you have a map and take care not to get lost.

Park Safety and Preservation

To preserve the beauty of Independence Park, as well as ensure the safety and enjoyment of all park patrons, camping, hunting, use of alcohol, littering, disturbing wildlife, cutting of trees or shrubs, dogs off leash, and straying from designated trails is prohibited. The use of motorized vehicles and fires outside designated areas is also not allowed. Thank you for your cooperation.
